New York City, Silicon Valley, Boston: These innovation hubs have set the standard for venture capital ecosystems. Here in Frisco, we're building on that legacy while carving out a unique identity of our own. With ambitious goals of putting Frisco on the VC map, Frisco EDC is accelerating and investing in our vibrant startup community — the pioneers, the trailblazers and the true innovators — who are shaping and fueling our dynamic VC industry.

Industry Insights & Significant Developments

On a Mission to Achieve a Moonshot Goal

Frisco is pulsing with entrepreneurial spirit. Home to more than 400 startups — most of which are focused on sports and financial technology — the city offers its emerging ventures a well-connected landscape that actively inspires, educates, and networks. But we can't have a vibrant and fruitful startup ecosystem without the seed money to make it grow.

Which is why Mayor Jeff Cheney has set an ambitious "moonshot" goal for Frisco to become the Venture Capital Capitol of the Central U.S. by 2040.

Focused on not just attracting venture capital and private equity, Frisco EDC is seeking to relocate and integrate firms into the professional community, therefore directly impacting the city's startups. No longer will our founders have to fly to the coasts to fundraise and pitch. Frisco will be the VC hub where they find their next rounds of funding.

Further strategies for achieving this goal include:

  • Partnering with Plug and Play Tech Center. In 2023, the startup whisperer opened an office in the city and brought with it a series of accelerator programs specific to Frisco's culture of innovation.

  • Investing in Corporate Innovation R&D Centers. The R&D hubs based in Frisco are incubating our startups, which are merging and acquiring technology created right here.

  • Corporate Venturing: When founders launch their companies in Frisco, they join a diverse mix of world-class names. Recruiting those larger, well-established companies to invest in and support the little guys ensures maximum success and collaboration.

Fast Fact: $3.1 billion in venture capital was invested in Frisco during 2022 alone.
